Yalova Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Tahsin Becan, 17 August 1999 Marmara earthquake 21. In a message released due to his year, he expressions:

The earthquake that occurred 21 years ago and affected not only our province, but also the entire Marmara, called the disaster of the century, has taken its place in history as one of the most painful disasters experienced by our nation. Although the past years have healed the wounds, they have neither eased our pain nor made us forget what we have lost. And the years after that will not make you forget

Looking at recent years, earthquakes in various provinces of our country and the statements made by experts indicate the possibility of a large earthquake approaching. We have no power to obstruction, prevent, delay an earthquake. We can only prepare with measures and action plan for the moment and after the earthquake. An earthquake is a situation that requires preparation not only institutionally, but also societal and individually. In this way, living prepared for a possible earthquake will further reduce our loss of life and property.

As Yalova, we need to review our earthquake emergency action plans as a whole, raise awareness of our citizens about the earthquake collection areas that have been designated, and, God forbid, not create panic during a major earthquake. In the 21 years after the 1999 Marmara earthquake, urban transformation has unfortunately not been carried out in Yalova. A possible big earthquake, especially in the city center, if the urban transformation is not done, the situations that can occur can face us with a very serious picture. We must take our precautions urgently. The greatest preparation for an earthquake is to build new buildings that are solid and based on earthquake technology. In order for us not to experience great suffering, the conditions of our housing that were found to have suffered moderate and minor damage or were not damaged in the August 17 earthquake should be reconsidered.

Our country is located on one of the most important Earthquake sash in the world. It is inevitable that an earthquake experienced in the past will occur in the future. The most important aspect here is to learn how to live with earthquakes, to make our structure stocks, homes and businesses earthquake resistant. I wish that such a disaster and pain will not happen again in our country and in the world, and I wish mercy from Allah to our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake, condolences to their relatives, and patience.
