A seminar commemorating and providing information about the August 17 Marmara Earthquake was held.
The 17 August Marmara Earthquake Commemoration and Information Seminar, organized with the contributions of the Yalova Provincial Representation of the Chamber of Geological Engineers of Turkey, the Yalova Provincial Representation of the Chamber of Civil Engineers of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), Yalova Municipality, and YTSO (Yalova Chamber of Commerce and Industry), was held with wide participation.
The program was attended by Yalova Deputy Governor Asalet Karabulut, Yalova Mayor Mehmet Gürel, Çiftlikköy Mayor Adil Yele, President of the Bursa Branch of the Chamber of Civil Engineers Serdar Atilla Erdem, President of the Southern Marmara Branch of the Chamber of Geological Engineers Mehmet Yıldız, Yalova Provincial Representative of the Chamber of Civil Engineers Ozan Burak Cangir, Yalova Provincial Representative of the Chamber of Civil Engineers Nevzat Çelikten, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of YTSO Cemil Demiryürek.
The seminar, titled “The Earthquake Reality of Marmara: Active Faults and Safe Construction,” addressed the earthquake risk of the Marmara Region and Yalova, active faults, building safety, and the importance of quality construction.
Prof. Dr. from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Yıldız Technical University... Ali Koçak, in his presentation titled "Causes of Earthquake Damage in Buildings and How to Ensure Quality Project and Construction," discussed the factors affecting the earthquake performance of buildings and evaluated safe construction practices.
Associate Professor Dr. Bülent Doğan from Kocaeli University Faculty of Architecture and Design presented on "Approach and Management of Earthquake Risks of Active Faults in and around Yalova Province in the Neotectonic Period of the Marmara Region."
The seminar aimed to commemorate the anniversary of the August 17, 1999 Marmara Earthquake, to remember the reality of earthquakes, and to evaluate Yalova's disaster risks in light of scientific data and raise awareness about safe construction practices.
